THE PALETTE LABORATORY (II)
project.
artistic research
title.
In Search of an Impossible Painting
date.
2019-2020
In the next study, I focused on the mural. I did not carry out this idea in Mexico, nor in Madrid, which is why I decided to return to the subject. The Palette Laboratory (II) was also meant to continue my research in The Palette Laboratory (I), as it is the desire to fill in the shadows that arose that brought about the concept of the mural. Apart from that, I wanted to see how the material took shape in a closed space. I built a white box that was meant to be a mock-up of the interior of a contemporary art gallery. While creating the mural it turned out the space was too small, which was why I began stripping the materials from the “gallery” walls, observing and documenting the changes. Recalling how light affects matter, I decided to put the removed fragments back in the “gallery,” illuminating and photographing them. Then I made new spatial forms out of them. My subsequent actions looked at the coexistence of the mural and the objects created. The aim was to search for possibilities, directions, and relationships that could be formed between one palette and another.
