When a picture comes and the imagination shapes it, in a sense the intention is idealized. I was persuaded of this carrying ten 3.5-meter rods topped with large balls. The weight was incredible. The previous stages of the performance had not suggested this, on the contrary, it could have seemed from its visual form that the object is quite light. A real battle began to be waged in making the picture I intended. I picked up the whole bundle then tried to drop it, so that it perfectly scattered over the “Earth.” This, however, was impossible. The balls scattered, but not as I expected. This could be seen as a total failure, but not in a performance. The only failure would have been if I had clung to the original rules. This moment of the performance was a great lesson for me. I abandoned my expectations and original intent. I was just focused on performing the same action - lifting and dropping the bundle. When I got tired, I rested a moment or delicately put one form on the ground and continued the performance. When the scattered balls were on the grass, I pushed with all my might, wanting to force them to move. When this didn’t work out, when the resistance was too strong and I knew the arrangement well, I picked up the bundle again, hoping maybe this time there would be a new arrangement, a new composition. A rhythm emerged: picking up and dropping, picking up and dropping, picking up and dropping...
